About Mista' YOUNGBLOOD :
Donny Hathaway or Marvin Gaye would be proud to learn that the work they put into making quality music was not in vein. Possibly the most rewarding of rewards could be heard in the ever so familiar tones and vocal styling of an artist known for his love of the two famous music milestones. He calls himself Mista’ YOUNGBLOOD.
Born in the cotton capital of California, Chris Youngblood fled the small town of Corcoran in 1994 and planted himself right in the middle of Hollywood. The land of plenty! It wasn’t long before Youngblood realized his new surroundings would be perfect for his talent. And every day since, his dreams of becoming an R&B sensation have become more vivid than the resting sun in his rear view mirror.
Youngblood took to the stage every chance he had. From talent shows at the local colleges, to performing heart wrenching songs at the Hollywood Celebrity Centre, to finding himself fronting several bands at clubs like The GIG, The Knitting Factory, Goldfingers, Zen Sushi,The Marla Gibbs Theatre or singing background for currently established artist Leela James opening for Macy Gray at the House of Blues on Sunset.
Youngblood is no stranger to the stage. His love for the stage is evident as he gives his all at every show; breaking a sweat while finding a soft spot in the audience to croon to the ladies falling at his feet!
In 2001, Youngblood stole away to New York to write and produce his first self titled CD – YOUNGBLOOD which he still performs songs from in his current lineup. While braving the East cold, Youngblood met and sang background for Melba Moore as she performed in a ceremony celebrating Paul Robeson.
From 2004 to the present day, YB as his personal friends call him, has led 3 bands all of which have played to his tune.Having met a few producers along the way, several tracks recorded by YB have made their way to TV and Film while also serving as his 2nd CD – Mista’ YOUNGBLOOD ‘A Collection of Songs.’
Still awaiting his big break, he remains humble while appreciating the inspiration he continues to find in his idols – Donny, Marvin, Otis Redding, Prince and Dave Hollister to name a few. Youngblood continues to write and perform in Los Angeles, and with a catalog of over 50 songs his issues remain constant with the ever changing world around him.
Currently, Mista’ YOUNGBLOOD is in the studio with friend and composer Damian Valentine working on his 3rd project as a solo artist. He is self-represented through his unofficial, yet thriving company C.Y. YOU LIKE IT PRODUCTIONS.
